The old Salesforce for Outlook connector is retiring in December.  You can find if you are using this one by navigating to Setup -> Outlook Configurations to see “Salesforce for Outlook.”  (This is not to be confused with the newer “Outlook Integration and Lightning Sync.”)

We have clients who use it, so I am sure that there are plenty of others saying “what do I do now?”
My answer is either Outlook Integration with or without Lightning Sync, or Einstein Activity Capture (EAC).  There is some configuration involved in regards to the Outlook panel, and layouts, if you choose to customize it.

The primary benefit for EAC is that logging emails is no longer a manual activity. Once a contact is recognized via the connection, EAC syncs 6 months of email history into a timeline activity related list in Salesforce. It will automatically log emails as activities.

Here is some information directly from Salesforce on how to move from Salesforce for Outlook to the Next Generation Products:

Andrew and Shannon had a quick chat on the topic.  Old Salesforce for Outlook users, retirement date is December 2020, so make your design/build/test/train plan now!

Shannon Gregg 0:34
I definitely will. So anyone who’s using Salesforce for Outlook, ears up, we have some news for you, in December 2020, Salesforce for Outlook will be sunset. So yes, it’s big news. It’s really big news. And it’s time for people to start thinking about what they want to do. So if your sales team or your customer service team, any of your Salesforce users are currently using Salesforce for Outlook, you better start thinking about what your replacement plan is going to be because that feature will be retired in December 2020. So anyone who’s using Microsoft Outlook, needs to start thinking about next generation products, and how they’re going to replace Salesforce for Outlook.

Andrew Duncan 1:22
Yes, speaking of next generation products, from what we can understand right now is everything will be moved over to an Outlook Integration and Einstein activity capture, that’s what people really wanting to move their sales reps to and get their cloud based products on. So, you know, is that going to be something that we have information on maybe available for people who are watching this at home?

Shannon Gregg 1:43
Yeah, definitely Andrew, anyone who is currently in Microsoft Outlook for Salesforce user, who’s considering moving to the Outlook Integration and Einstein activity Capture One, we’re going to tell you do it, it’s a fabulous product, to we’re going to tell you exactly how to do that. So we’ve written a blog, I’ll drop the link inside of the description for this video so that people can follow along at home and figure out what they need to do to get ready for this product to be sunset in December 2020.

Andrew Duncan 2:13
That’s amazing. That’s really helpful. Would you say that along with most Salesforce products, it’s better to get kind of a head jump on this before it becomes too late?

Shannon Gregg 2:22
Oh, Andrew, that was a softball question. I know you’re a baseball player. That was a softball question.

Andrew Duncan 2:27
Yes.

Shannon Gregg 2:28
As with anything, the earlier that you can plan, make the move and have some redundancies so that you can get your people trained, get them used to it and start to follow those good change management processes that we really preach about at cloud adoption solutions, the better. So, without question, now’s the time. If you’re listening to this video, and you’re using Microsoft Outlook for Salesforce, as soon as you stop listening this video, start to figure out what your replacement plan is going to be. Don’t wait until December 2020, when it’s yanked from you.
