What’s New with Salesforce?

Salesforce Life Sciences Cloud Gains Momentum

Salesforce is rapidly establishing itself in the life sciences sector. Its Life Sciences Cloud now supports more than seventy pharmaceutical and medtech organizations, including major names such as Pfizer, Takeda, and Fresenius Kabi.

The platform brings clinical, commercial, and patient care workflows together on a single system. Companies adopting it are looking to improve clinical trial recruitment and site selection, support patient adherence programs, and give field representatives better tools for engaging healthcare providers. For many, this signals an important turning point in how the industry manages research, development, and commercialization.

Veeva Under Pressure

The competitive effects of Salesforce’s expansion are already visible. After Takeda selected Salesforce Life Sciences Cloud, Veeva Systems’ stock dropped, reflecting market concerns about customer losses.

Veeva has long been the standard for commercial operations in pharma and biotech, but Salesforce’s broad enterprise footprint and stronger emphasis on AI are now giving companies reasons to reconsider. This development is a warning sign for incumbents who will need to prove their ability to innovate and defend market share.

AI Adoption in Life Sciences: High Maturity, Unclear Returns

Life sciences firms are among the most advanced adopters of artificial intelligence. Recent surveys show that about 43 percent of companies in the sector are considered transformational in their use of AI, well above the average in other industries.

However, only one in five of these organizations reports significantly better financial performance than peers who haven’t embraced the AI revolution to the same extent. The results suggest that while adoption is strong, impact is uneven. Firms continue to struggle with scaling AI beyond pilot programs, tying initiatives to measurable business outcomes, and managing governance and compliance issues.

Outlook

The life sciences industry stands at a pivotal moment. Salesforce’s cloud momentum is reshaping vendor competition, Veeva is under pressure to defend its position, and AI adoption continues to grow without consistently delivering returns. Companies that can pair new technologies with clear, measurable outcomes will be the ones that see lasting advantages.

User Adoption Research: Details from my PhD Research

Adult Learning Theory definitely impacts Salesforce Adoption

In my dissertation research on CRM adoption, one of the key themes was that the WAY your users are trained, and the ENVIRONMENT that the organization provides in terms of being receptive to change, clearly impact the overall adoption of the system. Check out this excerpt from my chapter that referenced peer-reviewed publications on this topic:

The third finding, or theme, “How team members learned CRM,” is a critical finding that showcases the need for training that is delivered with change management consideration, to drive adoption through behavior change (Landreville, 2016, pp. 224-227).  Adult learners who are being trained on the CRM system will bring with them their own motivations and approaches to consuming learning, and the training should consider the andragogical approach of these adult learners (Merriam & Bierema, 2014, p. 192-194).  How team members learn CRM can be influenced by the change-receptive organization, which sets the stage for institutional improvements (Eshleman, 2015, p. 18).

Advice from an Expert

Send your Qs to info@cloudadoption.solutions

Q: “Why should I start with leads in my salesforce process as opposed to contacts or accounts?”

A: Okay, we actually see this alot!

Starting with leads in Salesforce is the recommended best practice because it provides a dedicated space for unqualified prospects, helping to keep your core customer data clean and organized. As we all know clean data is the best data, especially inside your Salesforce org.

By using the leads object, you can track and manage these early-stage interactions, such as those from a website form submission, a trade show, or a purchased list, without cluttering your accounts and contacts with unqualified information, which believe me is super helpful when working in sales or operations.

Once a lead is qualified, and they meet your criteria as a legitimate prospect, we then recommend you convert them into a contact, an account, and, if applicable, an opportunity.

This process ensures that your contact and account records are reserved for people and businesses with whom you have an established, ongoing relationship, improving data accuracy and making it easier to report on your sales and marketing effectiveness.

Now there are ALOT of different use cases, and different types of businesses with many operational changes, this is just our best practice for the general Salesforce org!
