Salesforce Acquires Own Co: What It Means for the Industry
Salesforce’s recent acquisition of data-security startup Own Co. for $1.9 billion signals a strategic move to strengthen its security and compliance capabilities. With data privacy becoming more critical than ever, this acquisition positions Salesforce as a leader in not only CRM but also secure, compliant cloud solutions.
Why It Matters
Own Co. specializes in data protection and privacy, helping businesses comply with global regulations. By integrating these capabilities, Salesforce ensures that its platform remains a trusted choice for enterprises looking for secure ways to manage customer data in today’s regulatory landscape.
Industry Impact
This acquisition highlights a growing shift in the tech industry toward robust security measures. Salesforce is now even better equipped to serve industries like healthcare, finance, and government, where data security is a top priority. It also sets a new industry standard for cloud providers, emphasizing the importance of compliance and data protection.
Looking Ahead
As regulations around data privacy tighten, businesses are increasingly relying on secure cloud services. Salesforce’s move to enhance its security offerings positions it to meet these demands and attract new customers. For the industry, it signals that data protection will remain a core focus in cloud-based business solutions.
Salesforce’s acquisition of Own Co. is a crucial step in its evolution, offering enhanced security for its customers while setting a precedent for the future of cloud technology.

User Adoption Research: Details from my PhD Research
Recommendations for Further Research
One of the things I did when I was narrowing my Research Questions for my dissertation was to really study the “Recommendations for Further Research” section that is typically right at the end of a dissertation. This is an interesting way to learn what a researcher found that didn’t quite fit into the narrow scope of their own research, but considers quite valuable.
Here’s a small excerpt of that section of my dissertation:
“It is recommended that future studies explore deeper and relevant practices in the Diffusion of Innovations approach to implementing and championing the adoption of CRM or other software systems or process approaches. Future researchers may consider quantitative or mixed method approaches to capture a wider and more diverse audience with different boundaries to represent a more holistic view of CRM systems…Further research could focus on adoption issues, including mistakes made during and after implementation, the length of time each stage takes organizationally, understanding the value of user manuals and training, and ways to improve the process.”

Q: When is it the right time to evaluate my Technology stack?
A: Yesterday!!
All jokes aside, a tech stack can get really out of hand quickly. We live in an ever changing world, with incredible technology and applications right at our fingertips. This however comes with its own challenges, especially when it comes to what we call “Tech debt” and how it relates to what you use on a daily basis.
I like to compare it to subscription services at home. 10 years ago, Netflix changed the game with streaming services, and made cable the less attractive option. Nowadays there are dozens of high profile streaming services for every single production or entertainment company, and they all cost the same. The issue is if there is something specific you want to watch you almost need all of them, and you wind up paying more than you ever did for cable in the first place!
The lesson here: evaluate your technology needs often! Things will come along, change the game and be very flashy and interesting. But the technology prices add up, and if you’re not careful you could wind up with a massive pile of bills every quarter for a bunch of products that are just okay.
We’ve got an easy Sales Tech Stack Audit form that you can copy and use to get your evaluation started – check it out here!

Content Corner
- STREAMING: “The Menu” has just landed on Netflix. A couple (Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult) travels to a coastal island to eat at an exclusive restaurant where the chef (Ralph Fiennes) has prepared a lavish menu, with some shocking surprises. Listed as a comedy, I’d say it’s more of a horror/dark comedy, with cool stylish “menu cards” foreshadowing some of what you’re about to see. An interesting commentary on consumption with some really tense moments!
