Introduction

It has been a really long time since the Chrome browser has had a significant update—particularly for the user interface (UI) and overall behavior. However, the new Chrome browser look is so exciting, and I cannot wait to show it to you! It is going to completely change the way I work, and I think probably the way that you work, too.

My name is Dr. Shannon Gregg, and I am an expert and specialist in sales technology user adoption. I love to show you little tips that will make your workday a little better, so let’s get right into it!

Vertical Tabs: A Cleaner Workspace

The first thing I want you to notice is that you can now have your browser tabs gathered over to the left. If you, like me, are the type of person who uses tabs to keep track of everything you have to do, it looks so nice to have everything on the left-hand side. It completely eliminates those embarrassing times when you share your screen and have 45 million tabs running along the top.

Now, you can seamlessly bop back and forth by checking out your tabs on the left. You can also quickly reorder the way you see your tab navigation on that left-hand sidebar, making your workspace much more organized.

Dual-Screen Productivity with Split View

Another feature that I think is really fun and exciting is the ability to quickly see two webpages in the exact same view.

Here is how you try it out:

  1. Right-click on a tab.

  2. Select “Add tab to new split view” from the pop-up menu.

  3. Choose the second tab you want to add to the split view.

The possibilities here are endless! You could use it to compare platforms like HubSpot and Salesforce, look at two different vacation options, shop for back-to-school backpacks, or watch a video on one side while taking notes on the other.

Yes, you could technically do this before by dragging and resizing windows, but now both pages sit right next to each other in one beautiful space. It is also incredibly easy to manage: you can change the split tab, move to a new split view, or quickly remove it when you are finished. There are so many ways to use this feature that will help you both as a consumer and as someone sitting behind a desk looking at a screen all day.

Summary & Next Steps

To recap, these two exciting UI changes in the new Chrome update—keeping tabs on the left-hand side and utilizing the split view on a single screen—are super helpful for daily productivity.

I would love to hear from you! How are you planning to use the split tab view, and will it change the way you work? Drop your thoughts in the comments below, because I love learning from other people.
